The Art of the Nils Master Jigger Series

The Nils Master jigger was created back in the 1970's for ice fishing. The jigger comes in either size 3 or size 4. The body and swimming action were specially designed to mimic a prey searching for food. The darting and "rolling" action is nothing like anything else. Nils Master is a family ran business that has most of its products manufactured in Finland. They have a hub in Westport, Ontario and some places within the United States that you may be able to purchase product from. The Jigger 3 is just one of the many great items Nils Master has to offer.
The jigger 3, which is my dad's and I's favorite lure to use during the winter months, comes in an array of colors. Ranging from black and silver to perch colors all the way to hot pink. Black and silver (number 055) is our go to. This color can mimic anything from a minnow, sheephead, bass, shiners, etc. This bait has caught over 90% of the walleyes that we have ever caught.
The Nils Master secret is the orange/red fin. The orange/red color gives the representation of a wound on a fish, aka blood. Walleyes really keen in on that color.
The jigging motion is quite easy to do. It is a simple, hard jig, and let it sit. Repeat this over and over. Yes, this can be a bit boring to most, but it is the most effective way for these baits to work. The rolling and darting action that these baits have been created for, mimics its own path. At the top of the jigging motion, the lure will turn and follow the same path that it traveled in. Almost like a fish turning around and chasing a bait fish.
We use these for mostly walleyes, but they do make some of the smaller sizes for perch and crappies. The Jigger 3 is best used on 8-10 lb mono. The clear lines helps a bunch in lakes that have high visibility. Sometimes, if you do fish them in deeper water, 20 ft plus, you may use braid with a mono/fluorocarbon leader. The braid has no stretch so you have a better direct feel to the lure.
